ALTHOUGH ACTUALLY A BIT SMALLER THAN ITS FAMOUS “7 BY 7” MONIKER, SAN FRANCISCO IS A DIVERSE, URBAN CITY WHOSE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM INCLUDES 15 HIGH SCHOOLS AND 13 MIDDLE SCHOOLS. WE ARE CURRENTLY ACTIVE IN ABOUT A QUARTER OF THOSE SCHOOLS, AND HOPE TO EXPAND OUR MINISTRY IN THE COMING YEAR. WE HAVE A HEART ESPECIALLY FOR LOW-INCOME COMMUNITIES AND STUDENTS OF COLOR, AND WORK HARD TO CONNECT TO THE VARIOUS CORNERS OF OUR BELOVED CITY AND THE MANY CULTURES THEY HOLD.

​ Sonoma is in the heart of the famous Sonoma Valley wine-making region, and along with its wine, it is also well known for its art galleries, spas and beautiful 19th-century buildings. But Sonoma also has...kids! There are three high schools in Sonoma County, holding thousands of students with whom we are excited to share the good news of Jesus! Young Life has long-standing connections in these schools, and the current part-time staff and volunteer team leaders are eager to have a full-time staff member join them in serving the kids of this lovely city.

The city of Richmond in particular, which is 16 miles northeast of San Francisco, sits on the shores of both the San Francisco Bay and the San Pablo Bay. Its ethnic and socioeconomic diversity is exciting, and we see so much potential in reaching out to its youth, who make up over a fifth of the city’s population. Young Life has a well-established ministry in this area, with connections in the schools, and the current student staff and board are eager for staff to effectively lead the way.

With more than 25,000 undergraduate students at San Jose State, we hope to take a developing ministry to the next level with the leadership of a full-time staff person. This person will be a key player in our plan to reach more kids than ever for Christ in the 10th largest city in the United States. Everywhere there is strong Young Life College ministry, there are more volunteers to love and care for local teenagers.

The area features opportunities for every interest, incredible hiking and scenery, wine country and top-ranked public schools in the State of California.
